Feb. 22, 2023

Congratulations to the Playoff Qualifying Round Players of the Week ending February 17, 2023. You can also view the Players of the Week Archives.

Division 1: Cherine Nichols, River East Kodiaks, Forward #8

It’s play off time and the intensity increases as did Cherine Nichols’ who was on fire. On Monday in game one against the Miles Mac Buckeyes, she worked very hard all game long generating many scoring chances and scoring 2 goals in a 7-4 loss for the Kodiaks. In game two on Wednesday, Cherine popped in a goal and added an assist in their 5-4 win against the Buckeyes. However, she really put it in over drive for game three on Friday as she was a huge part of the Kodiaks’ offensive effort. Getting her team on the board first, she set the tone early. She also scored the winning goal with only 19 seconds left in the third in their 4-3 win to take the series. Congratulations Cherine!

Division 2: Kate Steiman, SJR Eagles, Forward #11

It was a close and hard working series between the SJR Eagles and WKC Wolverines in which Eagles’ captain Kate Steiman showed the way. In game one on Tuesday, she scored 2 goals in their intensive 3-1 win. There was no rest for Kate as she played hard all game. Game two was played the next day in a very loud and boisterous rink with the fans cheering throughout. Kate started strong assisting on the first goal of the game and scored the game winner in a truly thrilling 2-1 victory. Congratulations Kate!
